Le Bistrot @ Savoy Hotel
According to Asian travel experts, Smart Travel Asia, Savoy Hotel is the 9th best boutique hotel in Asia. So pretty good then! They have two restaurants – Kipling's Restaurant is fast becoming the place to go in Yangon for innovative modern cuisine, while at Le Bistrot, Executive Chef Mikael Wenger has created a mouth-watering menu that combines traditional French home cooking and bistro dishes.
Regardless of its boutique status, there is certainly nothing small about the portions - oh boy, they’re huge. We nearly did ourselves in on the amazing tomato gaspacho with grilled sardines ($8) and the salmon tartar with green salad ($18), making us wish we’d brought Tupperware. Indeed, we nearly ended up waving the white flag on the lip-smacking shank of lamb confit with mashed potatoes ($19) – If the fall-off-the-bone tender lamb wasn’t tasty enough, pink peppercorns discharge further fruity explosions of flavour, and the rich sauce and creamy mash made this bistro classic a massive treat that demanded to be eaten, which is a bit rude of it – but hey, it does have a point.
