There is nothing we like more than garden dining, so when we discovered that Padonmar had a smart looking garden for just that purpose, we were gushing with admiration.
Padonmar serve both Myanmar and Thai cuisine. We opted for Myanmar. We hold our hands up - reducing the time flicking through a menu of biblical proportions was an influencing factor, but more importantly, Padonmar has a reputation for serving delicious authentic Myanmar food…we would come back another day for Thai.
We ordered a selection of classic Myanmar dishes. The fresh Pomelo salad (2800Ks) with its citric juices was utterly refreshing and had the upper hand on the grilled aubergine salad (2800Ks). The masala infused flavours of the beef curry with spring potatoes (4200Ks) were subtle and made you keep coming back for more. However, the real show stopper was the Mawlamyaing fish curry with chilli (4200Ks). A saucy dish, without being too oily - the meaty chunks of filleted fresh water snake fish were cooked expertly. Being the thrill seekers that we are, we added a sprinkling of Balachaung gyaw (Myanmar fried shrimp relish) for added pleasure and then sat back and admired one of the lushest lawns in Yangon.
