We’ll put our necks on the line here and say that Sprouts probably make some of the best salads in Yangon. A bold statement, we know.
Owners, Andy and Jason opened Sprouts after rightly noticing a lack of healthy, affordable options in the Yangon restaurant scene. Produce is sourced locally, and if you like you vegetables clean, which I think most of us do, then you can rest easy knowing that at Sprouts everything is washed a very thorough three times – Firstly under running water, secondly with a lactic acid based wash, before a final rinse in reverse osmosis water.
Salads are prepared to order, so you can build your own or select from one of Sprouts’ speciality salads. The Jitterbug (4,500 Kyats) is a tasty mix of greens, beetroot, chickpea, roasted vegetables, cucumber and feta, all dressed in delicious basil vinaigrette. The Asian flavours of the Pomelo Yellow (4,500 Kyats) was also a big hit – greens, pomelo, corn, tomato, carrot, green beans and chicken, coated in wonderful sesame and ginger dressing.
Sprouts also make fresh sandwiches and homemade soups – the carrot and ginger (3,000 Kyats) is a winner! However, it’s the fresh salads with those ‘oh so good’ dressings that steal the show. Our only small gripe is that they’re not bigger.
