Sunday roast @ Union Bar and Grill

The great British Sunday roast – it’s more than just a meal, it’s an event. Family and friends come together to catch up and rejoice in one of life’s simple pleasures – devouring plates full of perfectly roasted meat.

Sundays are too short for bad roasts, so make sure you don’t spend yours chewing on old boots masquerading as roast beef, and get yourself down to Union Bar and Grill where Sunday roasts are now a welcome addition to their British inspired menu.

There is warm, family-friendly vibe at the Union on a Sunday, with kids play area and magicians. Roast wise, there are three options – roast sirloin of aged beef with Yorkshire pudding ($16), roast loin of middle and belly pork with apple sauce ($14) and lemon and thyme roasted chicken with roasted tomatoes ($12). The roast chicken was excellent - citrusy with subtle hints of thyme, and the cauliflower cheese was spot on. However, our favourite was the beef - cuts of pink, juicy and flavourful USDA beef came with a big fluffy Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, honey glazed carrots and crispy greens - all steeped in a superbly rich, homemade gravy. It was hard to fault. The only beef we had was that there wasn’t more beef, and some horseradish sauce would not have gone a miss (we were informed that it's being shipped in as we speak).

Any good Sunday roast would not be complete without an equally good dessert, and at Union Bar and Grill they have a few. The apple and cinnamon crumble with anglaise ($5) was excellent - the cinnamon balancing the sweetness of the apple crumble perfectly. The treacle sponge ($5) is a lighter option, but equally delicious.
