Whatever the recommended daily allowance for meat is, come to terms with the fact that you’re going to exceed it majorly here – Tony Roma’s is an American inspired restaurant chain that’s overflowing with meat, which means that you are guaranteed to leave outrageously full.
The fillet medallions (23,500 Kyats) are tender cuts of Australian beef smothered in a sauce of your choosing. We recommend the rich cabernet demi glace. The baby back of ribs (22,500 Kyats for a full rack) is a popular option, and no wonder – they are ‘World Famous’ after all. The tanginess of the BBQ sauce softens towards a meltingly tender middle. It was a messy affair. All mains come with a choice of sides. You can’t go wrong with a giant corn on the cob drenched in melted butter. The roasted vegetables however, were poor.
Overdosing on meat, the only thing that could save us was dessert. Go for the chocolate brownie with raspberry coulis and vanilla ice cream (4,500 Kyats). With no intravenous available, we used spoons – it was touch and go for a minute, but an intrusively attentive waitress was at hand at all times. We don’t know what we would have done without her.
