Urban Jet Setter - Five hot places to eat in Singapore

This weekend will see motor racings elite, as well as the global glitterati, and maybe one or two motor sport enthusiasts, converge on Singapore for the 2014 Singapore Airlines Formula One Grand Prix. It’s going to be quite a show - aside from the main attraction, there will be over 55 hours of entertainment expected over the three-day race weekend, including performances from Jennifer Lopez, Robbie Williams, Mayday, John Legend, Pet Shop Boys and Ziggy Marley.

If you are in Singapore for the racing action (or if you are just in Singapore), here are five great places to take a gastronomic pit stop.

Cicheti
The stylish two-story Italian restaurant located in the historic Arab quarter is small but well designed, with open brickwork, a wood-fire oven and an urbane crowd. Expect well-executed interpretations of Italian dishes, using fresh and locally sourced ingredients. Not an Italian cliché in sight.

Tippling Club
Tippling Club deserve all their accolades. Chef-owner Ryan Clift brings a touch of theatre and a whole lot of fun to the table with his boundary pushing modern cuisine, while award-winning bartender Zachary de G invents cocktails that are as quirky as the décor.

Dancing Crab
Roll up your sleeves and expect a gloriously messy experience at Dancing Crab, where seafood imported from all over the world is expertly cooked before being poured onto the table for a hands-on feast. Put the fork down!

Maison Ikkoku
The three-story shophouse in the kampong glam neighbourhood is a cosy café by day and an innovative cocktail bar by night. A great place for brunch, and an extensive all day breakfast menu is on offer at the weekends.

Skirt
One of the best steakhouses in Singapore. Prime cuts of meat, including Blackmore Japanese Wagyu and Australian Sher Wagyu beef, as well as the freshest seafood are beautifully prepared and complemented with the finest wines, all served in the classy, yet non-pretentious setting of W Hotel Singapore.
